PERFORMANCE by JOE GOODKIN

Joe has been performing his unique interpretation of The Odyssey for high school and college audiences since 2002. Drawing on his Bachelor’s Degree in the Classics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and his years of writing and performing original rock and acoustic music, Joe has created a 35 minute long composition for solo acoustic guitar and voice, which deconstructs the story of The Odyssey in song, invoking the spirit of the ancient Greek bards who originally brought forth the timeless stories of Odysseus and the heroes of the Trojan War, while making the poem and the circumstances of its creation accessible to modern audiences of all ages.

CONTESTS SUBMITTED BEFORE THE CONVENTION

  • Sienkewicz Latin Declamatio Prize
  • Davis Greek Declamation Prize (dactylic hexameter)
  • Translation contests

CONTESTS TO BE DECIDED AT THE CONVENTION

  • Chapter Service and Outreach Prize (based on your Flipgrid submission. See above.)
  • Best Student Paper Prize
  • Taberna Trivia Team Award
  • Best Greco-Roman Zoom Background! Use your common sense for what is and isn’t appropriate.

HOSTING A CONVENTION: Is your chapter interested in hosting the convention?

Proposals for hosting the 95th Annual convention (2023) will be considered at this year’s convention.  If your chapter is interested in making a proposal, some things to consider are (1) the support of your adviser; (2) the availability of lodging, either on campus or nearby at a motel or hotel; (3) travel to the convention by air, train, bus, and automobile; and (4) financial support of the chapter, the appropriate department(s), the institution, or state and local organizations.  For more information, see Convention Bids.
