Classical Perspective is a brief blog which considers contemporary news with classical studies in mind. Covering a broad range of topics from the political, the pop cultural, to even the scientific, the posts aim to demonstrate that the understanding of antique language, literature, and history is valuable in many spheres. For instance, did the Greek philosopher Epicurus supersede cutting edge physics by postulating irreducible, infinitesimally small, mass-giving particles which scientists now call the Higgs Boson? Can our modern infatuation with pop stars and celebrities compare with ancient worship of anthropomorphized gods and goddesses? Such questions and many other will be addressed, and readers are encouraged to respond and engage in dialogue.
