Eta Sigma Phi welcomed its 239th chapter this January.
The Iota Psi chapter at the University of California, Los Angeles completed its first induction ceremony on January 20th , inducting nine active members: Elizabeth Battey, Harold Francisco, John Ladouceur, Maxwell Mommsen, Rafael Moreno, Monica Pan, Michael Penny, Chris Sanders, and Elizabeth Zhang.
Dr. Kathryn Morgan, the Department of Classics Chair, as well as Classics Department teaching assistants Hans Bork and Benjamin Niedzielski participated in the initiation ceremony and have shown ongoing support in the development of Iota Psi.
Elizabeth Battey, current president of the Classical Society at UCLA and prytanis of the Iota Psi chapter, alongside Iota Psi officers Rafael Moreno, Chris Sanders, Mary Anastasi, Tony Person, and Chelsey Young, were instrumental in the organization of the chapter. Professor Robert Gurval and Professor John Papadopoulos will serve as advisors. Klancy Maples, Classics Department Student Affairs Officer, has been very involved in the development of the chapter as well.
Iota Psi hosted a trip to College Night at the Getty Villa, implemented a study community and tutoring service by and for Classics students, and has connected Classics department students and faculty together by holding regular meetings and social events. Iota Psi is currently planning a Classics Olympiad with the University of Southern California, and is excited to finally be a part of Eta Sigma Phi and connect with local chapters.”
